Your 4th Trimester/Postpartum Care
Pregnancy and childbirth are likely the most demanding events a woman will experience in terms of the changes and adaptations her body goes through to grow and birth her tiny human.
Even if each of us had the perfect environment, support system etc, recovery takes time, patience, presence, as much rest as possible and proper hydration and nourishment. Chinese medicine emphasizes and understands the importance of proper postpartum support. There are substantial benefits to utilizing Chinese medicine principles during this postnatal period to balance and stabilize the body and emotions, and to prevent imbalances from developing.
Postpartum complications that may be addressed through acupuncture and Chinese medicine include:
Persistent uterine bleeding
Severe or persistent afterpains
Night sweats
Perineal discomfort
Breastfeeding problems including insufficient lactation and mastitis
Postpartum depression/postpartum anger
Your First Trimester
We typically recommend weekly treatments during the first trimester to manage nausea, increase energy levels, and generally support your body as it goes through a huge amount of change in a relatively short period of time.
Your Second Trimester
This is where most women are feeling more like themselves again. We can reduce treatments to 1-2 visits per month unless you are having symptoms that require more attention (or you just love the weekly midday acu-snooze). This is where we like to manage any symptoms should they arise, and help your mind and body (and your growing tiny human) stay calm and balanced.
Your Third Trimester
We continue with monthly visits until 36 weeks. We will circle back to weekly visits in preparation for a healthy labor and delivery.
